The Garden of Lady Fatima Zahra

Within the current boundaries of the Prophet's ﷺ mosque in Medina Sharif, is an area which was called the Garden of Fatima Zahra - peace be upon her. It was a modest sized, blooming garden which belonged to the Prophet's ﷺ most beloved daughter. Ibrahim Rifat Basha travelled there four times during the Hajj season, for the last in 1904. In his travelogue, he described the garden in some detail and even provided a photo:

"To the East of the courtyard [of the Prophet's ﷺ Mosque] is a small garden, surrounded by an iron enclosure. It contains christ's thorn (jujube) trees and [smaller] date palms around a large date palm which is said to be the date palm of Sayyida Fatima - and the garden is attirbuted to her. To the south of this garden is a well which is attributed to the Prophet ﷺ and is called the Zamzam of Medina," (pgs. 449-450).

The garden was demolished in the last century to extend the

open prayer of the Masjid. Yet, for the mindful Muslim, this

area will always be the Garden of Fatima; Bustan Fatima

al-Zahra. Peace and blessings of Allah be upon her.
